I am very grateful for all this wonderful music.

Great to hear this version of "How long will it last", which happens to be one of my favourite Stuff songs.

i don't know how many LP's Cornell Dupree did but i'd love to get one...i'm just crazy about his style.

I'm curious to find out if this one really features Rainey's bass playing, or if it's a smorgasbord of genres just to show Chuck's stylistic range. Either way, it's a great looking lineup. Still have 20 minutes to finish downloading. Gotta get a faster connection!

Thanks for this one. Hope it's funky!!

Ok, checked it out. At first, it's dangerously close to disco, but the 3rd song hooked me. "Genuine John" has got the goods. Tho, overall it never comes close to essential, it has it's charms. Chuck has made his mark as a world-class session player, but as a leader, he seems a bit, well, like a session player. Still, I genuinely appreciate the chance to hear this slab, and thanks again for posting, even tho' I may not find it as interesting as it is rare. :)

thanks; I've seen his name as a side-man, a lot, but never heard him as a leader

hi Paros,
this one seems FINE! I've heard Chuck Rainey playing bass on many albums, but have never seen a solo outing of him before! This ought to be good :-) (year & label also)
peace, E-mile

I'm a big fan of Bernard Purdie, Richard Tee, Cornell Dupree and (especially) being a bass player of people like Chuck Rainey and Jerry Jemmott.

Great post then!

Anonymous said...

thanks, i didn't download though

Bernard Purdie is right up there for me with Idris Muhammed! But I don't have this LP, so thanks again!

It's surprising that Chuck didn't get to do this more often (then again, neither did Carole Kay).

I have this somewhere, but haven't heard it for years. I remember it as being perhaps a little too much smörgåsbord, but there were a couple a liked alot. Perhaps I'll like it more now.

Cheers.
