1971 Volt records usa .. RnB .. An obscure bit of late 60s Stax Steve Cropper's working away from the MG's here, in a mode that's slightly similar, but which has his guitar upfront in the mix on a batch of Memphis-style instrumentals. There's no mad funk on here, but the whole album's pretty nice -- and proof that Cropper was the key element in more than just a bit of the Stax sound at the time. Titles include "Crop Dustin", "Land Of 1000 Dances", "Rattlesnake", "Funky Broadway", and "Boogaloo Down Broadway. Mr Cropper also produced records for Ramsey Lewis . Brian and Brenda Russell . Otis Reading . Mavis Stapels and Stuff. He did quite everything at Stax from selling records at the Satellite Record Shop, developping his skills about recording techniques, playing the guitar and sometimes piano on most Stax records and composing the music for innumerable hits such as In The Midnight Hour, Knock On Wood, The Dock Of The Bay, Soul Man and so on. meet the master in the comments @320Saturday, 5 July 2008

NICE never knew this exsisted! Anything Booker T related has gotta be tight! Thanks a lot my man much appreciated
I didn't even know about this... Got to check it out!
Mr. Cropper was already a veteran when he started doing sesions with Stax! He was also behind some excellent productions that emerged from the Memphis label, the first Staples Singers records on Stax for instance. Unfortunately this was the only Stax/Volt album under his own name and by the date of its release he had left the label. Anyways, thanks Paros!
